Musim Mas is a privately-held Singapore-based company that has a 200,000 ha landbank. In December 2014, Musim Mas announced a new NDPE policy for its palm oil supply chain and third-party suppliers. Per the policy, all palm oil sourced was to be traceable to the mill level by the end of 2015, and to the plantation level by the end of 2016. Musim Mas has also undertaken efforts to reduce methane emissions at its mills with the assistance of the Government of Denmark. In 2019, the company announced that it had formed a coalition with several other companies to help smallholders in Siak District, Riau, Indonesia to sustainably produce palm oil. The company also announced that it adopted a new supplier engagement protocol. Musim Mas remains one of the top-rated palm oil companies when ranked by transparency.
Musim Mas has stated that, for now, it will protect High Carbon Stock forests according to the standard approach used by Wilmar, Golden Agri-Resources, Cargill and others. In implementing its new policy, Musim Mas has serious issues it needs to rapidly address. Two recent reports by the Rainforest Action Network have linked Musim Mas to ongoing deforestation in the Leuser ecosystem in Indonesia. In addition, known deforesters Peputra Group, TH Plantations, Felda Global Ventures, and United Malaaca still appear in the company’s supply chain.
Musim Mas is a member of the Palm Oil Innovation Group, alongside Agropalma and Daabon. The company is also a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.
In 2014, Musim Mas endorsed the New York Declaration on Forests.
